Vows, Promises & other Swear Words

Picture
Vows, Promises and other Swear Words, formerly "The Wedding Ring", is an original film written by Frank Barthol.  'Vows' is a comedy, drama, full-length film about a group of people, with commonalities, that share a table at a wedding reception.  Funny and energetic, the story pivots from light comedy and suddenly into a complex adult drama.
We made attempt to film the script in 1997. It was a great learning experience. I now refer to that as formal dress rehearsal. With 15 actors placed, we shot every page of the script. Much was learned. As we attempted to reshoot again in 2010, a couple of setbacks halted any further plans, even after placing 10 actors in roles, I thanked them for their professionalism.  Now, I plan on reshooting the film on Labor Day weekend of 2012. Shooting is slated for Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2.  I have scheduled  sub-groups of actors at different times, with the whole cast to film as an entire group on the Sunday, mid-morning..
I have rewritten many parts, but more importantly, I have story-boarded the entire project. Vows becomes  manageable, making the shoot easier, more concise and much more likely to achieve what I had envisioned.
Actors,  again, will have a room for Saturday night at a local hotel, and receive $100 stipend. They will be required to sign a universal release for independent films.
More Info will be posted as dates near, but contact me through email. Notification of auditions in June 2012 will be posted on this site.
                                                                                     Thanks,

Character Breakdowns         Vows, Promises and other Swear Words

Picture
Greg  - The main character, 30-49ish, White male. An intelligent, sweet smart ass. The photographer at the wedding. Energetic, positive, a little talkative and naive. Likes to smile, even when he doesn't understand whats going on.
Kathryn - 60-75ish, female, sister-in-law to Greer. Kind, undercontrol, positive, has many straight lines. Wiser than first believed. Appears at first that the simpleness in her smile is a guide to unintelligence, it is not.
Greer - 60-75ish, female, Kathryn is sister-in-law, Mean, mean spirited at times, easliy agitated, thoroughly honest, frank. Looking for a battle. Would be a great poker player. Bluffs by using her anger.
Steve- 40-50ish male, California native, Rationale, pharmacist, always pleasant, probably sun burnt. Wife is Kara. Never has dreamt there is life outside Ca, but might learn it tonight.
Kara - 40-50ish, female, a bit tired, husband is Steve, funny...when she steps up,  Always has put others first, caring, giving,  but now is tiring of that.
Mitchell - 40-50ish male, comical, silly, thoughtful, nervous, needy, with Sue. This role is for a person with understated comedic abilities.
Sue - 40-50ish female, quiet, no pretentions. Has a solid grip on common sense, tries not to enable Mitchell.  Kindly independent.
Heather - 20ish female, pretty, caring, much smarter than exterior lets on. Simple, easy going, has a big agenda under the surface.
CJ - 50ish, Pharmacist, male, uptight, Upset, ready to bust out of his skin. Has large part, this character goes through the largest transition.
Ben - 40-40ish male pharmacist. Married to Shiela, kind, intelligent, even keel, closes his eyes to important issues, has big important lines.
Shiela - 40ish female, exhausted, kind thoughtful, the answer to life has just been dropped on her, and she is okay with it, others might melt, but she's wounded and still stepping forward.
Groom, Bride, Server, Musician, smaller roles, but have important camera time.
